Your local Policing team are joining up with Oldham Council and local Community and Facebook groups to bring awareness to an issue that is literally a blight on the streets and public open spaces of Saddleworth.

Irresponsible dog owners are being called out under the #WeScoopThePoop initiative which highlights the levels of dog fouling left out in our local communities. Pet Friendly Saddleworth Facebook group with over 1700 members along with Pet Care Professionals from across Saddleworth all support this initiative.

As a way of showing solidarity responsible dog owners who do clean up after their dogs are being asked to take a picture of their dog with their poop bag post collection 🐾 and post up on their Facebook and twitter accounts to bring greater awareness to this issue which we see being discussed across Saddleworth and Lees on an almost daily basis.

They will be arranging clear up days through the next few months to bring areas back to a level of cleanliness that allows walkers to traverse without getting an instep full of poop. They will also be thinking imaginatively around how we can highlight deposits using pet friendly colour sprays etc.

There will be consequences for persistent offenders who do not change the pattern of their behaviour and this will be in the form of both fines and community based restorative justice sessions.

They hope that our community of Saddleworth and Lees fully swing behind this initiative and take part at some level whether that’s coming on a clean up day in your area or taking a pic of your dog with it’s bag used and tied up it’s up to you.
