Happy New Home Authentic!

The Popular Artisan shop Authentic in Uppermill has successfully moved home and welcomes visitors especially this weekend.

Authentic was opened 5 years ago, with just 10 Artisans on board, selling their wares by hiring shelving space. Now they have 50, keeping 7 of the original 10. The Artisans are centred around Saddleworth, the furthest coming from Glossop, so giving them an opportunity to share their work locally in a village that draws tourists and visitors from Manchester and beyond.

On visiting the shop today and receiving a very warm welcome, the quality of the Artisan items just hit me. From metal work to handmade clothing, glassware to photography, the display was stunning. And there was quite a buzzing feeling to the atmosphere with a number of Manchester bee’s appearing in different artistic forms.

After years of showing their Woozlewood wooden items at craft fairs, David and Viki decided it was time to bring their craft to Uppermill on a more permanent basis. Previously the shop was housed in a smaller building behind the high street but this became restrictive to them and when the opportunity to take over this larger accommodation came up, they jumped.

Viki said: ” (Initially) David and I spent hours discussing what we wanted and after talking to Helen and Jo (two previous partners), we knew we could bring ‘handmade’ back to Uppermill. David and I have run the shop for the last 2 years on our own, obviously with the help of the Management Team, Oscar age 10 and Kasper age 5, their sons. “

“Our vision years ago was to have a shop where we sold high end handmade goods and now when we look round our wonderful shop, we see that this vision came true.”

So if you’re looking for quality unique pieces for that special person, pop in. It’s easy to find, right opposite the Museum car park – It can’t be missed!

Saddleworth Life wishes Viki and David all the very best and can see they will be happy in their new ‘home’.
