Success For Boarshurst Silver Band

The musical director of the Boarshurst Silver Band says the last 16 months have been the most successful period in the band’s 161-year history. Since March 2009 the Greenfield-based band has entered 25 contests and been among the prizes at every one.

The excellent run began with the band winning the 3rd section of the Tameside Open Championships at Dukinfield Town Hall, and most recently the band took top prize in the 4th section at the Brighouse March and Hymn Contest last weekend (as reported on Saddleworth News here). The picture shows Boarhurst at Scouthead on Whit Friday in May, when they were also 4th section champions.

Musical director David W Ashworth said: “These results are a fantastic achievement and have been the result of some very hard work by a group of very talented players.”

However, Mr Ashworth has also revealed the band are keen to recruit three new players. Two Back Row Cornets and one Tutti Solo Cornet are needed to get the band up to full strength. The band is also inviting entries for the Boarshurst March and Hymn Contest, which will take place on Saturday 4 September. The adjudicator for the day will be David Horsfield. Any band wishing to enter can do so by contacting Mr Ashworth on the details above.
