What’s UCAN been up to this November?

It’s always very heartening to hear such wonderful feedback from people walking by the canal on how they value the work we do on helping to keep the local environment clean and tidy and so it was the last two UCAN Project days where we met so many people out walking and enjoying the crisp sunny weather.

As we were blessed with such lovely dry weather, we concentrated on continuing the work commenced last month of painting Wade Lock and the team are now well on the way to finishing the task by the end of autumn.

As always, we focussed on our regular litter-pick. The results of our ongoing commitment to clearing litter is very evident and rewarding for the volunteers and the wider community.

We also had a general cutting back of overgrown shrubbery around the canal, tackling low overhanging trees, branches and overgrown shrubs to help to keep the canal pathway clear.

Lastly, with Autumn rolling towards Winter, our beautiful trees alongside the canal are falling dormant and shedding their lovely multi-coloured leaves. With the recent heavy rainfall the leaves have become quite wet and generally quite slippy. UCAN volunteers have, therefore, helped clear the path with our annual sweep-up of the leaves from the canal-side which should make it much safer for us all to walk along.
