The Mayor of Oldham Cllr Shadab Qumar is on the last stretch of his fundraising year aiming to reach his goal of £52000 which will be donated to local good causes. Holdcroft of Oldham, pictured, are helping towards the cause by donating £10 for every new and used car they sell in March from their Mazda and Hyundai showrooms.
Cllr Qumar has nominated three main beneficiaries for his fundraising year, Maggie’s Oldham, Oldham Action Fund and the Ghazali trust, all of whom perform sterling work within the borough. Last week saw the Mayors ball held at the Civic Centre which was a resounding success raising £11,000 on the night giving a running total of just over £40,000.
Cllr Qumar told Saddleworth News and Life: “I have had a wonderful time in office and feel very privileged to have been able to serve the people of Oldham, it has certainly opened my eyes to see the amount of good work that goes on behind the scenes by the hundreds of volunteers who give up their time to provide facilities and services to
those who really need it. It has spurred me on to put all my effort into these last few weeks to achieve my goal so that we can give a helping hand to as many people as possible.
“We still have a number of fund raising events to come in the next few weeks culminating in this year’s big event on the 5th of May when for some insane reason I have decided to jump out of an aeroplane whilst it is moving at I don’t know how many thousand feet!!!! and would ask that if anyone would like to donate a few pounds please click on to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mayor-of-oldham-skydive.”
The mayors charitable fund has raised over £1m over the years all of which has gone to help people within the borough and will continue to do so with the help and generosity of the people and businesses of Oldham.
