Double Celebrations for Dobcross Band Club
Dobcross is celebrating on two fronts in 2029. The village’s world renowned Band Club has won the coveted regional title of CAMRA Club of the Year for the second year in a row. Clubs across Rochdale, Oldham and Bury were measured on the quality and range of their beers, together with the warmth of the welcome they offer to visitors. Members of the ROB CAMRA Branch were unanimous in naming Dobcross Band Club as their favourite, for the second time.
Many years of hard work by Band Club steward, John Holden, are now bearing fruit and the CAMRA award is testament to his expertise in the cellar, genial nature and welcoming manner.
This is especially poignant as in 2019, John will complete 35 years as Steward at The band club, a tremendous achievement which will be commemorated at a celebration dinner on April 27th.
Asked about his highlights in his time as Steward, John replied “I’ve met some great people and made some friends for life, but one of my proudest moments after being made President of Dobcross Silver Band was leading them as they marched through the memorial at the Menin Gate.
