Finding happiness

What do you think happiness is? For yourself especially.

Think about what you would like, what excites and thrills you, the stimulation you get from certain events or activities.

You need to feel ‘fulfilled’ – using your skills and natural talents, understanding and respecting your natural tendencies, your strengths and interests that are your guide to your own happiness.

We all need to belong – a group, relationship, family or team for example.  Most unhappy people are lonely or isolated (sometimes within a relationship or family …).

We always need to feel safe and secure – what does that for you?  Your home, being in control of your options and freedom of choice?  Family and friendships that give you a purpose and direction.

These are the other things we need – purpose for being, value in society and our locality.

We also need to keep growing to improve our personal social ‘status’ – having value and purpose, a job if you like, and to make a difference in people’s lives around you (your tribe)

Ultimately, when we are ‘happy’ we have reached the peak of our growth – ‘to be and become who we are ‘meant to be’ (Maslow’s ‘self-actualisation’ if you know it).   This means when you’re in ‘flow’ with the world and your circumstances or situation; when you feel comfortable and in control.  You often have fleeting moments in your life when things go amazingly well – your plans work, opportunities come in and you feel confident and capable in all you do.

But they don’t last …

When you do achieve this – and life is aimed at achieving this growth – then you can move forward and feel ‘happy’!

SO happiness takes purpose and direction, fulfilment and valued, using skills and talents to grow into who you can be if you choose to take up the reigns of your life …
