Hear From Greater Manchester’s Chief Constable

The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Peter Fahy, has used both a video message and an online webchat to tell local people about the force’s priorities for the coming 12 months.

He has put cutting crime and anti-social behaviour at the top of his agenda for 2011/12, along with strengthening visible local policing, protecting vulnerable people and delivering a value for money service.

That last point could prove to be particularly significant for the force, as it, like most of the public sector, deals with spending cuts imposed by central government. As many as 3,000 jobs are expected to go in the next four years, around half of them police officers.

You can watch the video by clicking on the box above. After the Chief Constable, there’s a message from Paul Murphy, Chair of the Greater Manchester Police Authority.

The Chief Constable also took part in a live webchat on Monday evening, as he answered questions from residents across Greater Manchester. You can see everything that was said by clicking here.

Meanwhile, in news from our local officers, a youth has been arrested following the attempted burglary at the petrol station at the Lees Co-op last week.

You can get up-to-date information from the Saddleworth and Lees police team at their website here, or from their Twitter feed here. You can ring them directly by calling the Uppermill office number 0161 856 4525. The best number to use for out-of-hours calls in 0161 872 5050, but in an emergency, always dial 999.
