Information sought after man died in a collision in Oldham on Tuesday

Police are appealing for information after a man died in a collision in Oldham.

Shortly before 3.50pm on Tuesday 20 March 2018, police were called to reports of a collision involving three cars at the junction of Glodwick Road and Retford Street.

A silver Mercedes saloon had been driving along Glodwick Road when the 71-year old-driver fell ill at the wheel.

The car continued travelling down the road towards Retford Street, where it collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra and a black Toyota Rav4, before coming to a stop on the grass verge.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward including the driver of the Vauxhall Astra.

Police Constable Dermot Murray of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts are with this man’s family, and we are doing all we can to support them at this incredibly difficult time.

“As this happened near a very busy hospital, I’m asking for anyone who saw the Mercedes in the area that afternoon to please get in touch.

“If you have any information, or were travelling around the hospital when the collision happened and have dashcam footage, please share this with police as soon as you can.”

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact police in 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 1404 of 20/03/18. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
