Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were presented to local Photographers of the best three images in the Saddleworth News Photography Awards 2017 on Wednesday evening.

Paul Mills – Gold (Jenny Martin)

The Reclamation Room, Lees Street in Saddleworth was the venue of the 2017 Awards ceremony that saw keen photographers of Saddleworth events, landscapes and people proudly exhibiting their prized images. The photographic subject given to the entrants was ‘Summer in Saddleworth’. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented as well as top prize of a tripod given by Pennine Photography and Binocular Centre, Rochdale, the awards sponsor.

All images submitted into the awards were displayed on the night. The awards were judged by local artist and graphic designer Carl Pugh, Local Lifestyle Coach Kathryn Phillips, owner of the Reclamation Room and of the upcycling business Style and Salvaged Emma Givvons, local professional photographer Jude Gidney and the previous editor-in-chief of SN Stuart Littleford. TV presenter (Most recently ITV’s Daybreak) and previous Diggle resident John Stapleton made the final decisions on the 3 final images, the Saddleworth News Readers deciding on the outcome of Gold, Silver and Bronze.

The Awards Ceremony was well attended by a large majority of submitting Photographers, their friends and family. Saddleworth News also played host to esteemed guests the Deputy Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Javid Iqbal, Mayor of Mossley, Councillor Chris Lyness and the Deputy Mayor of Mossley, Councillor Irene Raddings.

Ruby Anstee said: “It’s been wonderful to have so many local amateur and professional photographers submit their images, and

really interesting to see the different take that each has on the subject of ‘Summer in Saddleworth’. It truly is a beautiful area that has been captured by the photographs entered. It’s a shame we couldn’t give all an award. We’ve also got the pleasure to host the Awards Ceremony in the Reclamation Room, a fantastic local arts and crafts café that really is becoming the hub of artists and the like in the area, with their exhibitions, workshops, ‘Style and Salvaged’ furniture restorations and welcoming atmosphere.”

Stuart Littleford said: “I started the idea of the Saddleworth News Photographic Awards as I am a keen photographer myself and in handing the site over to the new editor, she’s run with the opportunity. It’s great to see the site doing so well. “
