Jack hoping to pile on the pounds for charity

Eleven-year-old Jack Ireland will be pedalling for pounds when he rides his bike all the way from his home in Denshaw to Blackpool.

The Delph School pupil is taking on the challenge to raise money for his two favourite charities – the MS Society and Francis House Children’s Hospice.

The route he will be taking is nearly 60 miles, across Lancashire and finishing at Blackpool Tower.

Jack said: “I want to do something that helps raise money for charities that help other people. I hope my donations will make a difference.

“I think that riding to Blackpool will be a tough challenge but I will make it.”

Jack loves sport and plays football for 3D Dynamos, cricket for Greenfield and has already tried cycling on the Manchester velodrome. He has chosen his own route and date of April 7th to make it an individual challenge, and not part of any organised event.

He said: “I have trained by cycling up the Nont Sarahs road out of Denshaw and around Saddleworth, and hopefully that will help me on the ride.”
