Man on the Moor – ‘Captivating… You’d be a fool to miss this.’ FEST MAGAZINE

Reporter : Judith Grinter

A captivating monologue about a missing stranger found on  Saddleworth Moor is coming, for two nights only, to The Millgate Arts Centre in Delph.

Written by Max Dickens and performed by the man himself, the reviews say that the play is “highly entertaining and deeply thought provoking”.

Michael, director of Saddleworth Live told Saddleworth News and Life : “We saw it at the Edinburgh Fringe and highly recommend it. It should prove especially interesting to a Saddleworth audience because off the local connections with the story. The play itself uses the Saddleworth mystery as its starting point and local references are made throughout the play.
Profits from the play will go to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team and there will be a collection after the performance.”

On the 12 December 2015, an elderly looking gentleman was found dead on Saddleworth Moor. He was carrying no form of identification. Train tickets in his pockets showed he’d travelled 200 miles, apparently just to die. Despite a national campaign he remained unidentified.

As the police went public with the man’s image, 40 different people reached out to claim ‘the man on the moor’ as their missing husband, father or brother. These people are ‘the left behind’. Those who pick up the pieces when someone they love leaves and simply never comes home again.
This powerful drama looks at how people come to disappear and the impact on those they leave behind.
