New Search For Keith Bennett Planned

A renewed effort to find the body of Moors Murders victim Keith Bennett will begin on Saddleworth Moor next month.

The announcement has been made as Keith’s mum, Winnie Johnson, has revealed that she is suffering from cancer. She has also sent a personal DVD appeal to killer Ian Brady, in the hope he might at last confirm the location of Keith’s body.

Friends of Winnie have started a new website, www.findingkeith.com, to collect donations to fund the new search, and to keep supporters updated.

In a short video message posted on the site, which you can see above, Winnie said: “I want him found before anything happens to me, because I’ve got cancer and I don’t know when I’m going to die.”

She added: “I want Brady to know that I’ve got cancer, and if he’s any decency or respect for himself and me, to show me where Keith is before anything happens to me.”

The new search is scheduled to start on Monday 9 May. Supporters of Winnie have identified a one square mile area of the moor, which it’s thought hasn’t been examined before. They estimate the new effort could take up to 12 months.

Keith was 12 when he was abducted and murdered by Brady and Myra Hindley in 1964. His body has never been found despite extensive searches.

The police ended their last hunt for his remains in 2009, and some privately-funded searches took place last summer without success.

I do hope this poor woman gets what she has been wanting all these years and finally gets peace of mind. I hope Ian Brady can find some compassion for what he and Myra Hindley did all those years ago. I hope there is a least a small amount of decency in him enough to put Winnie Johnsons mind at rest.

Make sure details of the search are published nationaly because there are a lot of people who would like to volunteer and help. Next month I’ll be busy, but later in the summer I am more than willing to give a month or more of my time.
As a kid I spent part of my summer holidays (50’s and 60’s) in Gorton with my cousins. Hard for a kid to understand why parents were so worried when we went out to play, so easy to understand now.
