“Overwhelming” community spirit sends Marsden Jazz Festival hurtling towards its £12k target
It’s looking good for the Jazz Festival
Marsden Jazz Festival is within £2,000 of its funding target of £12,000.
The festival launched an urgent funding appeal back in June to make up for losses incurred in 2017 but looks to be on course to reach its target by 15 July thanks to generous donations and gig adoptions by the local business community.
Charity reserves were able to cover last year’s losses but the festival wouldn’t have been able to continue on that basis. The Adopt a Gig scheme asks gig-goers who are able to make a donation of £50 or more and local businesses to consider sponsoring one of the headline gigs for £250, or one of the stages from £1,000.
Festival director Barney Stevenson says, “The support we’ve seen so far has been overwhelming. It just shows how much the village values the festival and the benefits it brings to the local area.”
Marsden Jazz Festival (12-14 October), prides itself on being accessible and affordable and this funding is essential to support the programme of free gigs and outdoor events.
Marsden Jazz Festival takes place in more than 25 venues in the village of Marsden, most of which are full to capacity. Last year’s festival saw more than 150 hours of live music, 21 headliner gigs, more than 70 free gigs across 24 venues in three days as well as the beloved Saturday street parade. The festival also staged six ticketed events in Marsden Parochial Hall for the first time.
