Police Issue Summer Burglaries Warning

Police have revealed there’s been an increase in the number of burglaries in Saddleworth recently. The good weather is being blamed, as residents leave windows and doors open and unlocked.

In an e-mail to local householders, the Saddleworth and Lees Neighbourhood Policing Team have reminded residents to make sure their homes are secure. The statement says: “Please be aware that burglars are active during the daytime as well as overnight and will take advantage of unlocked doors and windows even if people are in.”

The e-mail goes on to list various tips for improving security around the home. They include making sure house alarms are set when you go out and at nights, locking windows and doors when you go out or go to bed, using door chains and window locks if you want to get some fresh air, and keeping house and car keys out of sight and well away from windows and doors.

To report anything suspicious which is not an emergency, residents are asked to ring 0161 872 5050. The local police team’s office number is 0161 856 4524.
