Saddleworth Tweet-Up In Denshaw This Saturday

A scene from Twestival Oldham, as someone in a giant owl suit ices a cupcake. What fun and games will take place this Saturday?

Organisers of this Saturday’s #ehup have revealed more about the family fun day in aid of the local scouts, which will be held in Denshaw.

Something of a follow-up to the Twestival held in Oldham earlier this year, the event is being driven by users of information-sharing website Twitter. But you certainly don’t have to be a tweeter yourself to go along!

Here’s organiser Deborah Wroe of Owl Marketing with the details:

THE TWEET-UP #ehup takes place on Saturday 9 July from 2pm–8pm at the Saddleworth Llama Trekking Centre, Higher Oxhey Farm, Oxhey Lane in Denshaw (off Delph Road, look for the llama trekking sign). The event will be a fun afternoon, picnic-style and will be a fundraiser in aid of the Oldham & District Scouts Group, for which Helen Taylor, owner of the Llama Trekking Centre is a leader.

#Ehup-ers are asked to bring rugs, food and drink and enjoy the beautiful views of Saddleworth. There will be a prize for the best picnic, so bring your candelabra, your best home made scotch eggs or your vintage picnic set, who knows what will catch the eye of the judges and win?

There will also be live music from local bands Spark (info here), The Delph Sound and Jack. The music will range from covers of The Jam, The Who, The Killers, Oasis, The Beatles, Squeeze, The Eagles, to Crowded House, all good sing-along stuff from the 60s to now.

Please bring your games; football, cricket, giant Jenga, rounders, swingball. The scouts will be providing activities, and there is talk of sponge throwing – any willing volunteers offering to have wet sponges thrown at them? Remember it’s all for a good cause!

The scouts will also be on hand to direct cars to the parking area in the field – be warned it is a bumpy lane up to the Llama Centre, but what a view when you get up there. The cost is £5 per car and there is plenty of parking. Cars can also be left overnight if required. For those on public transport or walkers, we are asking for £5 per party of five, it is a fundraiser after all.

As there are lots of other animals at the farm (chickens, peacocks, pigs, sheep, lambs and more) please don’t bring your dogs.

Wet weather plan – please keep an eye on #ehup on Twitter or Facebook (see here) in case we get torrential downpours. No-one wants soggy butties or a soggy bum so if we do get horrific weather we will reschedule and maybe see if we can manage a pint in the White Lion instead on Saturday.
