Oldham Bereavement Support Service have been presented with a cheque for £2,000 by Saddleworth Women’s Institute.

The cheque was handed over at a presentation in January at the Saddleworth Hotel.

The WI have supported Oldham Bereavement Support Service for the last two years. In December the WI voted on their new charity for 2015 and announced that they will be supporting ‘Funky Fitness and Fun’ who are based at Greenfield Conservative Club.

A spokesperson for the WI said: “This is a non -profit making community group who promote health and well- being for people with additional and different needs, they create pathways for learning new skills promoting confidence and inspiring lives. They provide a wide variety of sessions including healthy cooking, all types of fitness including Bollywood, martial arts, brain gym and laughter yoga.

“They also endeavour to encourage confidence through new types of communication, holistic therapies, meditation, music, art, woodwork, drama and much more. Members are involved in orchestrating sessions and running workshops. They also inspire positive links in community cohesion by delivering fitness and well being sessions to residential and other groups and perform variety shows at many events in and around the borough.

“Their latest venture is running interactive story telling sessions to integrate with local  schools.”

Recently the Institute have been actively raising money for their minibus which will enable them to provide a service far and wide.

New members and guests are always welcome at WI meetings. Non-members can attend a maximum of three ‘taster’ meetings before joining. They are now taking annual membership subscriptions of £36 for 2015.

They require a donation of 50p per member and £2 for non-members per meeting towards running costs and refreshments.

Their new improved website is www.saddleworthwi.com

You can find further information on the site about the W.I. along with details of all their forthcoming events, activities, sub-groups and our programme of monthly speakers. They can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.
