The Frolick To Bring Baroque To Saddleworth Festival

Award-winning baroque group The Frolick will be treating Saddleworth to a taste of 18th Century London during the Festival of the Arts, which begins in just over a week.

They’ll be performing what they describe as songs of “love, recession, melancholy, drinking and riotous fun” at St Anne’s Church in Lydgate on Tuesday 7 June at 7:30pm.

Director Emma Curtis told Saddleworth News: “We are rather unconventional as an early music ensemble. Although strictly an original-instrument period performance group, we prefer to call ourselves a band.”

She explained in an e-mail: “The members of the band improvise from song sheets in the same way that today’s jazz musicians do, but in accordance with the historical 18th Century style. Each performance is different and fresh, and very exciting.”
