When we are married – or are we?
Review by Judith Grinter
The Lyceum Theatre served up a very amusing farce last night as their production of J B Priestley’s ‘When we are married’ took to the stage.
Although the set was vintage and my concern that the production would be a little dusty, the actors did an amazing job of bringing the play to life and a very amusing evening was had. A muddle up of legal representations 35yrs ago caused for laughable consequences amongst three couples, and the day saved by very wise words from a drunk photographer.
Never having attended the Lyceum Theatre before I was surprised that such a beautiful little theatre was in existence in the bowels of a very grand Oldham building. Being underground it’s not possible to see in from the street so this little hidden gem goes easily unnoticed by regular passers by to the shops and tram travellers. Parking was easy, just across the road in Sainsbury carpark, with whom they have an agreement of a free stay for any visitors to the Theatre. Fully equipped with a very reasonably priced bar, and an air of excitement amongst the waiting audience, my trip to the Lyceum Oldham is an experience I’d be very pleased to have again.
