Mother says daughter is ‘very lucky’ after riding accident

A local mother says her daughter is very lucky not to have been seriously injured after falling from her horse in Dobcross this morning.

The North West Air Ambulance was called to assist paramedics at the scene of the incident, near to Saddleworth Viaduct, at around 9.45am after the girl’s horse was frightened by a passing lorry.

The girl who is in her late teens was treated for suspected leg and pelvic injuries at the scene. She was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital by land ambulance and later discharged after being treated.

The girl’s mother told Saddleworth News: “My daughters horse ‘Marley’ was startled by a lorries air brakes and threw my daughter off. After bolting away he was caught by passers by and was uninjured.

“My daughter is very battered and bruised as well as quite emotional – she is very lucky – I want to thank everyone for helping, especially an off-duty police officer, and the motorists who stopped.”
