The first exhibition of the Saddleworth Photography Group

A new exhibition representing local professional and amateur photographers is to take place in Saddleworth at the end of the month.
More than eleven photographers from the Saddleworth Photography Group will be displaying their best personal work at The Reclamation Room on Lee Street in Uppermill from 23 August – 5 September. The exhibition, which is free to view, will feature 26 images in a range of photographic styles including portrait, landscape, experimental and art.
Saddleworth Photography Group has been operational for two years and has over 100 members. It sets weekly practical challenges to help photographers learn from their own practice and from that of others. The group provides a sounding board for members to ask questions and give feedback. This is their first exhibition.
Group Leader, photographer Jude Gidney said: “One of our aims is to make photography accessible to everyone, so we were delighted that The Reclamation Room agreed to host our show. It is the perfect venue in the heart of Uppermill, and will allow us to reach people who otherwise may not visit a traditional gallery.
“All exhibitors are displaying to a professional standard, some of them for the first time, all working in a personal capacity. It gives our members an opportunity to share work that may be very different from what they produce in their professional lives.”
Manager of Reclamation Room, Rachel Weir said: “Reclamation Room has been pleased to host a number of art exhibitions but this is our first exhibition dedicated solely to photography. We are constantly amazed at the standard of talent that we have in the local area, and we are looking forward to seeing some wonderful images on our walls.”
The exhibition is open to the public 9am – 5pm Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 4pm Sunday, closed Monday, from 23 August – 5 September.
