A little bit of Italy comes to Delph

Not to be outdone by brass bands from Europe and Australia, Saddleworth Players have created their own piece of Italy on the stage at Delph’s Millgate Arts Centre, for their current production which runs this week.

Set in 1940’s Naples, ‘Filumena’ by Eduardo de Filippo, this comedy drama sees Filumena Maraturano on her deathbed awaiting her marriage to Domenico Soriano, the man who has kept her as his mistress for 27 years.

No sooner has priest completed the ceremony, Filumena makes a miraculous recovery. As he reels in shock, Domenico discovers that this brilliant iron-willed woman has a few more surprises for him.

Newcomer to the Millgate stage Verity Mann plays the title role supported by many Saddleworth regulars in this fun show. The production team have worked miracles to re-create a small piece Naples on the Millgate stage complete with mosaic flooring and extensive floral dressing.

The show runs until Saturday and forms the Saddleworth Players contribution to Saddleworth Festival Of The Arts which starts Saturday.

Tickets can be booked online at www.saddleworthplayers.org.uk, or by calling the box office  each evening from 7pm – 10pm on 01457 874644.
