A Silver Winning Trophy for Boarshurst’s Silver Band
Boarshurst Silver Band are proud winners the 2nd section at the 2017 national finals of Great Britain. Last weekend the band travelled to The Centaur, Cheltenham and played their hearts out.
The brass band equivalent of the football league, the National Brass Band Championships sees over 600 bands from across the country compete in 8 regional heats; culminating in 2 finals events.
Keith Welsh, a mainstay of the band, told Saddleworth news: “Obviously we are extremely proud of this achievement. Not just because of the fact that we won but also because we feel the band is an integral part of the Saddleworth culture and history.
“Bringing the trophy back home to Greenfield was one of the proudest moments for players of the band.”
Sadly, the band’s secretary, Janet Payne, passed away earlier in the year. Keith told Saddleworth News: “Janet was a tour de force in the banding community and well respected in Saddleworth. She would have been overjoyed at the result this weekend which made the win even more emotional for the band members as we could only wish that she had been here to celebrate with us.”
