A View From Saddleworth Moor
Saddleworth Moor has been back in the national news in recent days, as volunteers begin their efforts to find the body of Moors Murders victim Keith Bennett. But the moors can be beautiful as well as bleak, as this image from local photographer Robert Hough demonstrates.
It shows Yeoman Hey and Dove Stone reservoirs, with the former in the foreground. The smaller Greenfield Reservoir is hidden from view below the ridge at the bottom of the picture.
Robert took the shot while travelling back from Holmfirth on Sunday. He saw the team looking for Keith’s body, and commented: “I wish them luck, but you don’t realise how how massive the moors are until you are up there.”
The picture is reproduced here with Robert’s permission. You can view more of his work at his Flickr page here. You can also follow him on Twitter here.

This is pretty much the same view taken on 14 January 2010. The nearer reservoir is frozen over, the nearer slope hidden by the ploughed snow beside the road…
And it is snowing again…

PS it’s Yeoman HEY…
Thanks for posting the photo. Have changed that spelling now too! Richard.
