April in Paris
Judith Grinter
A review of April in Paris, a production by The Saddleworth Players, written by John Godber.
A very clever little play about a couple from Yorkshire, their bored staid life together and the effect of winning a ‘romantic trip’ to Paris had on them. The play makes use of a number of artistic props, more you will find out when you see it yourselves. The two worked well together, him droll and generally negative, her positive and wanting to enjoy life as she can. As they both evoked feelings in the viewer, their acting abilities shone through.
An amusing quote by the husband of ‘What’s all this about Toulouse’ made us wonder if he was talking about the artist, his wife knew a very different story. The play evoked a range of emotions looking at marriage, how day to day life and unemployment can cause upset within a couple and how they react towards each other.
Definitely worth a visit to a lovely intimate little theatre where there is obviously a lot of pride taken in their productions.
