Beautiful Dovestone and keeping it that way

Brian Banawich is a resident of Dovestone. He’s been very active on twitter sharing the beauty of the place and has recently started talking about the litter. Here’s what he told us:

I’ve been collecting litter as an RSPB volunteer at Dovestone for the past 3 years .

As a resident of Dovestone I was becoming frustrated at the increasing amount of litter being left at Dovestone by visitors. I wanted to do something proactive so began collecting litter at Dovestone at weekends and just incorporated it into my usual walk.

I soon met RSPB volunteers collecting litter and they encouraged me to get in touch with the local RSPB. I’ve seen the numbers of people visiting Dovestone increase quite rapidly in the past couple of years and this has also resulted in a substantial increase in litter. After a sunny weekend the clean up can take several days with many volunteers helping out. It can be frustrating to help rid Dovestone of litter one day only to see it brimming with litter a day or two later. I know many visitors are baffled by people who would leave litter and rubbish in such a beautiful place because they stop and talk about the issue.

I’d urge anyone who wants to keep Dovestone free of litter and a clean environment for people and wildlife to contact the local RSPB to see how they can help.
