Boarshurst Band Organise Fundraising Duck Race

The Boarshurst Band in action at Dobcross Band Club recently.

Members of the Boarshurst Band from Greenfield are continuing their efforts to raise money to attend the National Brass Band Championship Finals at Cheltenham in September, with a duck race this coming Sunday, 5 June.

With the details, here’s an article written by Matthew Williams from the band:

THEY’RE UNDER STARTERS’ ORDERS at 1pm at Greenfield Cricket Club on Ladhill Lane, with the winner expected to reach the finish line at Greenfield Bowling Club by about 2pm. Events then move to Boarshurst Band Club for the concert at 2:30pm. Afternoon tea will be served from 3:15pm.

Just £5 buys admission to the concert, an afternoon tea and a ticket for the grand raffle to be drawn during the afternoon. Ducks are available now for just £1 each from band members, Boarshurst Band Club (01457 875836) and various local shops including Greenfield Post Office.

Prizes are £100 for the owner of the winning duck, plus £50 for 2nd, £25 for 3rd and £10 each for the next 10 places. The duck race is part of a series of gala events and concerts planned for the coming months to raise money for the band’s forthcoming trip to the National Brass Band Finals in Cheltenham this September.

The band were invited to this prestigious event after finishing as 4th Section runners-up in the regional contest and, as the only band from Saddleworth attending the National Finals this year, are hoping for plenty of local support.
