The Boarshurst Silver Band has qualified for the finals of the National Brass Band Championships. That’s after Boarshurst finished second in the Fourth section at yesterday’s North West regional qualifying event at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

Under the musical directorship of David Ashworth, the band performed the test piece of Prelude, Song and Dance at the Empress Ballroom, and took one of the four places available. The finals will be held in Cheltenham in September.

It’s another excellent result for Boarshurst, after their success earlier this month at the Brass at the Guild event in Preston.

However, Boarhurst Silver was the only band from our area to qualify. In the Fourth section, Greenfield finished 15th with the Dobcross Youth band 21st.

In the First section, Oldham (Lees) was sixth with Diggle eighth.

Uppermill narrowly missed out in the Second section, finishing fifth ahead of Dobcross Silver in 11th, Delph in 12th, and Mossley, who were ranked 15th.

Honours in the Championship Section went once again to Foden’s, ahead of Fairey and Pemberton Old Wigan.

You can see the results in full and read a report about the event at the excellent 4 Bars Rest website here.
