Bus Crashes Near Greenfield Station

The stricken bus completely blocked Chew Valley Road at the junction with Shaw Hall Bank Road.

The top end of Chew Valley Road in Greenfield was shut this afternoon, after a bus crashed near the village station. The school bus failed to make it round the downhill hairpin at the junction with Shaw Hall Bank Road, and ended up completely blocking the road.

The school bus was taking students home when the accident happened at about 3:30pm. Police were quickly on the scene and diverted traffic away from the scene as best they could.

Engineers from First Manchester also attended, although it wasn’t immediately clear whether it was a mechanical fault or driver error which caused the bus to crash. There was no obvious external damage to the bus. School pupils were still on the top deck of the bus as they waited for alternative transport to arrive.

Happens all the time, sometimes they just scratch the wall, sometimes they nearly do, sometimes they scrape the footpath. Alearner driver in my bus ince coudlnt get it in reverse, so the road was blocked for 15 mins, I was wondering why the bus went down the other road.

If Chapel road was one way the correct way, UP HILL, then the traffic nightmare in greenfield might not have been so bad, and the traffic in general would be much lighter at the station. Can the the powers that be, not see the sense in reducing the traffic going uphill at the station. If chapel road ran the other way all the traffic leaving the village would have two means of escape instead of being bottlenecked at the steep hill next to the station. Big vehicles already cant get down the hill because traffic queueing to get up the hill is blocking the way. COMMON SENSE PLEASE.

I agree Justin – as do many others. Unfortunately the officers and councillors who decided on the diversion of Chapel Road have very little common sense and even less candour when it comes to admitting their mistake. The one-way route of Chapel Road should be reversed so as to prevent the bottle-neck at the station junction and other associated problems.

But there is probably more chance of pigs taking off at the runway of Manchester Airport than the blathering highway idiots changing their minds.

Apparently the recovery vehicle sent to rescue the bus wasn’t powerful enough and it ended up being pulled free by the bin lorry!FARCE!

Crash? What crash? Stalled on the bend is all. Inconvenient, but no drama.

  • Nick Watts says:

I tend to agree with the comments about Chapel Road, this seems to make good common sense.
I know at the last Parish Council meeting this was just dismissed, but it seems worthy of review.

the 350 seems to struggle on that bend the R234 SBA batch more trouble is cars not giving it space to get round some just fly round that corner without any though that a bus might need to come round
