Here’s the winning entry in the Huddersfield Canal Society’s photography competition for 2010. The image, showing a snowy scene of the canal at Uppermill, was taken by local man John Brierley.

According to the Society, the judges had a difficult task picking the winner, and were struck by the “consistently high quality” of the entries.

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the completion of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, with the opening of the Standedge Tunnel. Various events are planned for later in the year to mark the bicentenary, and more information is available from the Society’s website here.
