Cheeky girls and French postcards inspire artists latest exhibition
Saddleworth artist Laura Smith will be displaying a number of her most recent works in an exhibition to be held in Mossley this weekend.
The exhibition will take place in the ‘Pop up Gallery’ at Emmaus with Laura chosen as the featured artist.
Laura’s exhibition is called ‘Konnect’ and is an idea she developed after finding some old postcards in Emmaus – these were written by a man called Alan to an unknown girl he was romantically involved with.
Laura said: “Many of the postcards had comments on them such as ‘to a cheeky girl who I love dearly’ and things of that nature, it is all about connections, hence the name of the exhibition.
“Most were posted in Paris around springtime giving an even more romantic feel to it all.
“Also the first Emmaus community was founded in Paris in 1949 by Abbé Pierre, a priest, MP and former member of the French resistance, so this seemed to fit in well with the theme.”
There will also be work on display from resident artist Tonie Rigby, as well as a selection of recycled items incorporated into displays from other arts groups.
There will be a wide range of works on display incorporating various mediums, some on canvass and board, others framed using recycled wood.
Laura will also be donating 20% from any sales to the Emmaus charity.
The exhibition will be held on Saturday 6 July 2013, 11.00 – 3.00pm at Emmaus Mossley, Longlands Mill, Queen Street, Mossley.
