Chilly, some rain after the wettest winter recorded – Thursday 5th March 2020 – Sunday 8th March 2020

Winter is done. Meteorologically-speaking of course. We lacked in snowfall, sub-zero temperatures and instead had to cope with a final third of copious amounts of rainfall and named-storms. It actually rained every day from the 8th of February to the 29th of February. That’s 22 days in a row!

Here are some rainfall statistics for Winter 2019/20 compared to previous winters.

Thursday: A cold start with a touch of frost in places where clear spells have developed. Dry with bright or sunny spells. Max 8°C

Friday: A chilly start once more with some localised mist and fog. Mostly cloudy after some early brightness with isolated showers coming in from the west during the day, some wintry on the hills. Max 7°C

Weekend: Saturday the best day to be outdoors.

Saturday: Milder with a southwesterly airflow. A bright start but cloud will thicken during the day with some rain arriving late-evening and overnight. Breezy. Max 10°C

Sunday: Morning rain clears to a day of sunny spells and blustery showers, some wintry on the hills and we can’t rule out some hail and thunder & lightning. Windy and it will be colder. Max 8°C

Outlook: It’s looking unsettled again with a couple of spells of rain and wind. In between and either side, breezy with sunshine and showers, some wintry on the tops as it stays cool. No sign of our first Spring warmth.
