Choosing a care company

Choosing a care company

Choosing a home care company such as Caremark Oldham is a tricky business. Making the decision to invite people into your or your loved one’s home requires a lot of trust and can be quite nerve-wracking, the choices are numerous and there’s a lot to consider. We’ve put together a few tips to help ensure you choose the right care company for you.

Trust, trust, trust
The decision to allow carers into your home is significant, and you need to be able to trust the people that come in. Caremark Oldham is registered by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulatory body for health and social care services in England. Find out more about the CQC here www.cqc.org.uk/

Word of Mouth
Ask around. Your neighbours might know a good company, or perhaps your GP has some contacts. There’s nothing like word of mouth for reassurance that you’re making the right choice. Looking up online reviews and asking for testimonials is a good step too, as you can see references from real service users and their families. www.homecare.co.uk is a review website for home care companies in England.

Go local
Care companies can have offices all over the UK. Make sure you choose a local company, so if you ever need some extra help, an extra call or more frequent visits, there’s someone close by to help.

Consistency is key
If you can provide a regular set of call times, you can often receive consistency in the carer you receive. Building up a rapport with a small team who come in regularly will allow you to develop a relationship and really get to know one other. This is much better for your peace of mind than having a different person turn up at the door each week.

Transparency
Whether you require care for yourself, or a family member, you want to be able to know what is going on and monitor it accordingly. Caremark Oldham are committed to communicating effectively with families. Choosing a care company can be daunting, but once you’re picked the right one, it can also be a fulfilling relationship for both parties.

Caremark Oldham has recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and has 7 years’ experience caring for people in the Oldham area. Pop here to read more about their award.
