Church Inn Gets Manchester Confidential Review

The Church Inn above Uppermill has been visited by a critic from the food and culture website Manchester Confidential. The reviewer had kind words to say about the portion sizes at the pub, but wasn’t so keen on the service.

The website is known for its often caustic reviews of Manchester’s bars and restaurants. That considered, the Church Inn did pretty well to have its food described as “hearty fare” even if the writer said it appeared to be “from a pub menu from circa 1977.”

To read the review for yourself, go here (it’s down the page a bit and on the left).

I was there when this crowd walked in.
I think it’s quite a fair review though.
They do tend to underpromise and overdeliver, but that’s no bad thing.

I didn’t try the reviewed icy IPA, but the St George was great as ever and its temperature seemed fine to me.

I think they should have really mentioned that The Church is a dog friendly pub too, as that’s a big and quite rare bonus in my books.

Probably worth side-noting their rather marvellous menagerie including Peacocks, which you will undoubtedly come across if you sit outside to eat in the sun: twitpic.com/2jcups

Just been to the Church Inn and really enjoyed it. The pub has atmosphere and history. The folks were polite and friendly.

I’m a brewer and enjoyed the beer. The ‘More’ is full of body – although for my taste it needed hopiness. The Harvest had plenty of ‘lemon.’ You sell your craft beer too cheap. Reduce pumps from 10 to 5 and charge more for your beer. It is too chilled – I guess it comes from a low cellar (not a cooler) – the warmth is better for nose.

Make more of the brewery. Take punters around. Get a decent website. Do B&B.

    Thanks for the pleasant afternoon.
