Dance The Night Away At The White Elephant Reunion

Drifters Revue

The White Elephant club, which is now known as Delph Youth Club, is bringing back its annual reunion after public demand. The reunion will be held at the Civic Hall in Uppermill, on 3 March.

The first annual reunion was held last year, and was sold out.

Former White Elephant DJs and the event organisers Phil Beck and Stuart Littlewood said: “Last year’s reunion attracted over 300 people who we had not seen since the old youth club closed in the late seventies. Of course none of them had aged and were dancing the night away until well after midnight!”

Phil added: “It is a great chance for us all to get together again, after the success of the last reunion we are really looking forward to this one and hope we can keep this annual event going throughout many years to come.”

This year’s reunion will be bringing The Drifters Revue to Saddleworth, who will be performing familiar hits including Saturday Night at The Movies, On Broadway and Up On The Roof.

The club was originally formed in the mid 60s so teenagers around Delph had something to do.

Introducing the disco and dance nights helped the club become popular amongst the Delph community.

Concert promoter Stuart said: “My expectations for this event are very high, in the mid 60s we used to hold the biggest disco and dance nights, and we are hoping this event will help recreate that. Back then we didn’t have cars and technology so we decided to create a club on our doorstep, so that teenagers could get together and just have fun.”

Everybody is welcome to attend the event, tickets are £15, and can be bought from Uppermill Post Office. For all enquiries please call Phil Beck on 07976165815.
