Debbie Abrahams MP has paid tribute to her friend Jo Cox MP, 41, who was shot and stabbed multiple times following a constituency meeting in Birstall, West Yorkshire.
The member of parliament for Batley and Spen suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at 1.48pm on Thursday by a doctor along with paramedics at the scene.
Debbie Abrahams, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, told Saddleworth News: “Jo was a dear friend and colleague who always lit the room up with the sheer force of her personality. She had a real love for life and a wonderful sense of fun.
“She was in politics because she wanted to make the world a better place having worked in many countries across the world where conflict and injustice are rife.
“My thoughts are with her husband, Brendan, and her their two young daughters at what must be the darkest of times for them.
“As Brendan said, in Jo’s memory, we will unite in love and peace, not hate.
“Thank you, Jo, for all you did for so many people and inspiring us all.”
Sorry to hear about this tragedy. Get the new Saddleworth School built and name a wing after Jo.
