Debbie Abrahams supporting Small Business Saturday in Oldham and Saddleworth

Last Saturday Debbie Abrahams, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, started her Christmas shopping in and around her constituency as part of the UK’s first ever Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is a grass-roots campaign to encourage people to shop locally and support small businesses in their local community.

Debbie is encouraging everyone in Oldham and Saddleworth to support small businesses in the run-up to Christmas as well as give a longer-term boost to trade and give a lift to our struggling high streets.

Across the UK different on-going activities are taking place from Christmas festivals to networking events for local business to start-up sessions for entrepreneurs – all to promote Britain’s small businesses*.

Debbie, who has her own award winning Be Fair – Pay on Time campaign, to help protect small businesses from late payments, said: “Our small and independent businesses add so much to the character of Oldham and Saddleworth and benefit us all.

“People value the choice and service they get from smaller shops which is why I want to promote the contribution they make to local communities and why I’m a keen supporter of Small Business Saturday.

“We need to do more to celebrate entrepreneurs and support our small businesses so I hope everyone joins in where they can and, especially in the run up to Christmas, really make a point of using and supporting our local businesses.”
