Delph And Dobcross Into Semis
Delph and Dobcross reached the semi-finals of the Sykes Cup last night, with a crushing victory in their rain-delayed quarter-final against Thongsbridge. D&D also enjoyed a comfortable win in the league against Broad Oak on Saturday, to continue their good run of form.
The cup tie began on Sunday with D&D batting first and reaching 247/4 from 44 overs when the rain set in. Irfan Zahoor made 90 and Lancashire all-rounder Kyle Hogg scored a second century in succession, although both he and Arron Lilley had to retire overnight because of county commitments.
Thongsbridge also lost two players, so it was nine-a-side when the match resumed yesterday evening. Some big-hitting took D&D to 312/7 from their 50 overs. Thongsbridge, who play two divisions below D&D, never looked like getting anywhere near their target and were quickly dismissed for just 61, with Matt Norvall taking 6/26 to complete a victory for D&D by 251 runs.
On Saturday, D&D enjoyed a similarly straightforward league win against Broad Oak. They bowled the home side out for just 59, with Hogg taking 5/37 and Bilal Khiljee finishing with 4/15. D&D openers Zahoor and Bruce Cruse knocked off the runs in just seven overs, as D&D won by 10 wickets shortly after 3pm.
