Delph And Dobcross Into Sykes Cup Final

Elland batting against Delph and Dobcross yesterday.

Delph and Dobcross are into the Sykes Cup final following a 140-run victory over Elland in front of a good crowd at Huddersfield Road yesterday. The result means D&D will face Skelmanthorpe in next month’s final at Honley.

D&D won the toss and chose to bat, and Irfan Zahoor and Bruce Cruse put on 223 for the first wicket. Cruse was eventually dismissed just short of his century for 94, while Zahoor pressed on until he was finally out for 134 off just 119 balls. Professional Bilal Khiljee added 53 as D&D reached 342/7 from their 50 overs.

Elland managed a respectable reply but once the wickets began to fall they never looked like getting close to their target. The visitors were bowled out for 202 giving Delph and Dobcross a convincing win. You can read a report of the match at the D&D website here.

However, on Saturday, D&D suffered a setback as they were beaten by Shepley in the Huddersfield League. The match pitted third against second, but after winning the toss D&D were bowled out for just 158. They needed a last wicket partnership of 61 between Warren Jones (49) and Steven Broadbent, who was left 17 not out, to at least give themselves something to bowl out.

Shepley reached the target relatively easily though, for the loss of just two wickets. Tim Rees top scored with an unbeaten 73. The report on the D&D website is here.

Delph and Dobcross remain third in the table, but are now further behind both Shepley and leaders Honley. You can see the table at the league’s website here.
