Delph And Dobcross Maintain Third

Delph and Dobcross kept their solid third place in the Huddersfield League over the weekend, as they followed up a washout against Skelmanthorpe with a comfortable victory over Holmfirth.

On Saturday, a D&D side featuring your correspondent making his first team debut, hosted Skelmanthorpe at a soggy Huddersfield Road. Rain meant the match was reduced to 33 overs, but there was still time for the visiting professional Wasim Jaffer to score a century, making the most of being dropped early in his innings. The former India Test opener made 113 out of Skelmanthorpe’s 213/6, while Bilal Khiljee took 3/57.

D&D were well up with the run rate in the tenth over of their reply when, after the fifth rain break of the match, the umpires finally declared the game abandoned.

Delph and Dobcross had better luck yesterday at bottom of the table Holmfirth, with a ten-wicket victory. The home side was skittled for 101, with Warren Jones the pick of the bowlers taking 4/43. Openers Irfan Zahoor and Bruce Cruse then knocked off the runs in 17 overs, with Zahoor hitting three 6s in his unbeaten 65. With the final episode of Last of the Summer Wine broadcast last night, it was indeed a bad day all round for Holmfirth!
