Diggle gulley problem shows no improvement
The heavy rain is still causing flooding problems at the top of the A62, Standedge Road, Diggle, towards Marsden this afternoon.
Despite previous stories on Saddleworth News and the intervention of Cllr Garth Harkness, nothing much seems to have been done to solve the issue, the water at the moment is still running down the road causing problems for traffic in both directions.
The gulley is still blocked and a river of water is flowing from the moors onto the road, most of the roadside drains are blocked as well.
Debris and stones are again strewn across the road, a number of motorists have said it is only a matter of time before somebody gets injured.
The deep trenches caused by previous heavy rainfall are starting to become permanent water routes now.
It is quite clear that nature is being allowed to take over the fabric of the roads in Saddleworth. Flooding is the consequence. I myself complained over a year ago, numerous times to the council and many of the local MP’s Although a “lip service” effort was made at the time, it is equally clear that the council has little intention of providing the maintenance service we all pay for in our rates. I have kept all the evidence I gathered, including emails to councillors and replies. I also asked the council to do a “risk assessment” this request was IGNORED. I am now waiting for a serious accident, and will be happy to provide this evidence for any litigation. It is all I can do.
As for the last point in this piece, yes stuff washed into the road like gravel is dangerous for the “motorist” it is lethal to a biker.
Have u seen the pot holes at the top of the road from diggle before joining the a62. Meet the bus coming in the opposite direction and u will be in it.
I am not happy that the work has not been done. I was told in August the problems were identified and will deal with them. I will follow this up. I have asked council questions on reducing flooding and I am awaiting a meeting with the cabinet member and officers on similar issues. I will of courses raise this.
I am also planning to meet with the editor when I return from the party conference before I meet with OMBC on these issues.
Regards Garth
Brownhill Lane will shortly need downgrading from a road to a track unsuitable for motorised traffic. Repeated reports of problems have been studiously avoided. Still, I could perhaps set up a caving trips business before long.
Ridge Lane, same, have been told its even too risky to take a horse on that “road”…
I did ask council for the address of an ombudsman for councils….. Couldent or wouldent even give me that.
I have been told you can get a county court order, and I am looking into that.
Haw Clough lane on the Greenfield/Uppermill border heading down to Kinders is also in a state
Out of sight out mind seems to be the policy on our back ‘streets’it would seem.
