Dobcross as featured in ‘Yanks’ in 1978.
This weekend sees the 17th annual Yanks event taking place mainly in the Saddleworth Villages of Dobcross and Uppermill. It is a celebration connected to the fact that the film Yanks was filmed in part in the Village of Dobcross, Saddleworth.
Thanks to local Store Manager David Bradbury Saddleworth News can show you some archive images of the actual filming. ‘ I managed the local Co-Operative Store that was used in the Film’ says David.
Thanks to local lifestyle coach, Kathryn Phillips, Saddleworth News can show images taken during the shooting of the Dobcross involvement in the film. The film was then released in 1979.
‘This was in summer 1978. They had dressed the village to look like during the war and it seemed deserted and eerie,so I took some photos with an old Kodak Instamatic. We ended up being in the background noise for the next scene.’ says Kathryn.
