The Swan Inn, Dobcross, has won the “Best Pub in Saddleworth” in the Saddleworth Illuminations Competition run by Saddleworth Parish Council.

The pub was taken over last year by a new landlord and has become well known for its quality food and ales.

Landlord Michael Powis said: “We are all delighted at the Swan Inn to win this award especially as this is our first year running the pub, we wish to thank all our loyal customers and staff for their valued support during this time.”

Tim Newbold, who runs the pub alongside Michael, has also worked very hard to ensure the success of the festive lights.

The award ceremony will be held at the Uppermill Civic Hall on 10th Jan at 7.30pm, when domestic and commercial winners will receive their illustrious awards.

What about all the other winners and second prizes, many houses every decorate there houses with lights and they don’t get a mention, even the pub that came second place doesn’t get a mention. Nothing but favouritism!

  • Who has said we are not going to mention anyone else? This pub has taken the time and trouble to send in a photo and story. I am sure when the council do the award it will be fully covered. Including all the runners up. Editor.

I sent the same comment to the Oldham chronicle on Friday when they announced it in there paper that I don’t begrudged them or the other winners who pictures were published on the 28th, but the true far way is to publish pictures from all winners, has the shop near me in Grotton that didn’t win last year has won and they get a little one sentence.
