Dobcross Whistler Appears On BBC

David Morris

Saddleworth’s own champion whistler, David Morris, has been all over the media lately, promoting his forthcoming appearance at the Isle of Wight music festival.

It all started last month, when he was a guest on the Absolute Radio breakfast show. Presenter Christian O’Connell decided to invite David to perform at the summer festival, which will be covered extensively by the station.

David, who lives in Dobcross Square, is going to be opening the legendary rock festival by performing God Save the Queen, a particularly unusual twist on the famous Jimi Hendrix version of The Star Spangled Banner from Woodstock.

Then, this morning he was on two different BBC breakfast programmes. He appeared in a report on BBC1’s Breakfast about whether MP3 players have killed off the art of whistling. You can watch it here.

Later, he was a guest on Radio 5 Live’s Breakfast show, for a chat about the same topic with presenters Nicky Campbell and Shelagh Fogarty. You can listen again that interview for the next week by clicking here (he’s on at 2:26).

There’s also an article about David on the Oldham Advertiser website this week, and you can read that here.

David’s own website is here.
