Dobcross Youth Band – Disney inspired event
Snow White, Cinderella and even a Prince Charming or two will be hitting Dobcross Band Club on Friday 9 May as the village’s Youth Band performs a short concert of well-known and loved Disney music.
The concert will take place from 7.30pm and all members of Dobcross Youth Band will be dressed up as their favourite Disney character. Saddleworth residents, families and friends are all invited to join in the fun free of charge, although dressing up is not a requirement of entry!
Following the concert, children who may have been inspired to play a brass instrument can have a go themselves and get to know some current band members. Dobcross Youth Band’s volunteer committee will be on hand to talk to parents and guardians about how the band operates and the opportunities it can provide to young people in Saddleworth and Oldham.
Jenny Wood, Dobcross Youth Band’s Secretary said: “Learning how to read music and play a brass instrument is a fantastic skill for anyone to acquire and it’s a particularly great experience for a child to have as part of a group. We know that being part of the band can boost a youngster’s confidence, instil them with a sense responsibility, and help them meet new friends, perhaps away from their typical friendship groups at school.
“We hope lots of people will join us for our fun-filled event, inspired by all the Disney family favourites. Some of our members are still in the early stages of learning how to play but we promise you’ll recognise all the tunes!”
Dobcross Youth Band welcomes all children and young people, aged from seven to 18. Rehearsals take place at Dobcross Band Club on Platt Lane from 7.00pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. Weekly subs for beginners are just £3 per week which includes the loan of an instrument.
