A new market, as seen on Dragons’ Den, has come to Oldham and Rochdale. Mum2Mum Market, has branched into the area, selling nearly new and new items for babies and young children.

Kelly Dronsfield has bought the franchise and with her marketing background is amazing parents and grandparents by giving them the opportunity to sell nearly new items. The sales often include prams, baby clothes and toys, anything up to age 6 and tend to be full of quite high-end items.  Quality articles bought new, last, and are often used for a very short time.

In March 2016, business guru Cath Harrop presented the franchise business Mum2Mum Market on Dragons’ Den. Mum and Childminder Kelly brought the business to Oldham and Rochdale in October last year and since then the markets have been growing with lots of new and repeat sellers and buyers. Kelly told Saddleworth News: ” Cath has provided me a very good marketing plan, and templates on how to run the business. I’ve done well on twitter and facebook so far and enjoying marketing the markets.

” I’ve a background in marketing, I worked at an ad agency in Altrincham. When I had my first baby, I decided not to go back and then trained as a childminder. I decided to take on the markets as an extra challenge and to meet with other parents.

“As well as nearly new items, there are also some opportunities for businesses. At previous sales, amongst others, there has been repeat stall holders Little Crafty Caterpillar Hair accessories, first aid company, a swim school, a tuition company, a baby and child photographer and  children’s clothing companies. Sponsorship is also available and in return the business receives extensive social media mentions, leaflets in goody bags and exclusivity, their logo on website and free range to decorate the room of the sale.”

Mum2Mum Market Saddleworth NewsWhen asked why Kelly made such a change in career direction she told Saddleworth News : ” I think there’s a market out there for the sales. I think people’s shopping habits have changed. There’s no shame in shopping in Charity Shops and buying second-hand anymore. How many people have 3 of the same toy they’ve been given for Christmas or Birthdays? It’s got to be of use to somebody. The sales are something that work in Oldham. The interest we’ve had so far is amazing.
“It’s a lot safer than online selling as you meet the sellers, can talk to them about the condition of the item you’re buying and know they are local if you have any difficulties. ”

  • With cakes and teas and coffees available, the market makes for a good afternoon out for a family. At present the Mum2Mum Market in Oldham is monthly with plans to run them  consecutive monthly sales in Oldham and Rochdale.  You will find them at Oldham Academy North, which is the old site of Our Ladies School on
