Dramatic Pictures Of Saddleworth’s Wharmton Dash

Two runners negotiate the river. (all pictures: Craig Hannah)

Here are some superb pictures taken during Sunday’s Wharmton Dash fell race, held as part of the Saddleworth Show. Near the end of the course, the runners had to splash and swim across the River Tame, and local photographer Craig Hannah took these images as they did so.

As well as photos of the leaders among both the men and women, Craig also captured Chris Davies MEP, perhaps as you’ve never seen him before! See if you can spot him in the pictures below.

The images are reproduced here with Craig’s permission. You can see more examples of his work, including many other shots of Saddleworth, at his page on photo-sharing website Flickr here.

To read a Saddleworth News report of the race, including a video of the sprint finish, an interview with winner Sean Willis of Saddleworth Runners, and plenty more pictures, click here.

Sean Willis leads Ed Gamble into the river. He finished just one second ahead of him at the finish line.

Women's winner Gaynor Keane (right) swims across the river.

There was a rope to help the runners across.

Breaststroke.
