Ever fancied taking part in Manchester Day Festival? 17 June 2018

Be Part of Manchester Day Parade – 17th June 2018

Manchester Day is an annual event for families, residents and visitors to celebrate everything great about the north and the iconic city of Manchester. The centrepiece of Manchester Day is the stunning parade, weaving its way through the heart of the city. The parade itself will be around one mile long and take up to an hour to pass any one point! A fusion of colour, music and dance.

Katie Mallard, Musical Director of two local Samba drumming bands, is looking for new volunteers to join the project, Rhythms of Recovery, which will see 100 costumed drummers pounding out rhythms on the streets of Manchester. The project has been created by Juice, an alcohol recovery Samba band, to bring drummers together from across the UK and with 60 participants last year the project has now grown to include 100 drummers, dancers and flag bearers for 2018.

Want to get involved? Katie is looking for volunteers to join our local drumming bands to train up for the parade. It’s suitable for adults and young people (suggested minimum age 10) and no experience is required, just a willingness to pick up a drum and have a go. You need to be available on either Tuesday or Friday evenings to attend practice sessions.

Slickstick Sambastic, Tuesdays 7.30-9.30pm at Huddersfield University
Honley Samba Band, Fridays 7.30-9.30pm at Southgate Theatre, Honley

To take part or to see if this is for you please get in touch before Sunday 6th May.
