Get active with The Outdoor Collaborative

2020 has been a tough year for many people in many ways. In particular, charities and those who benefit from their services have suffered. None more so than The Outdoor Collaborative, a new Charitable Incorporated Organisation, set up by local Saddleworth residents, which launched last year before being forced to a halt by the global pandemic.

The goal of The Outdoor Collaborative is simple: to improve the mental health, creative opportunities, and employment prospects of people in Greater Manchester, by providing guided walks in the countryside whilst incorporating training to develop and improve digital media skills. It is open to all but focused particularly on young people as the trustees feel they can gain the most from these experiences.

Following their first training session at Dovestone Reservoir in May 2019, the Collaborative ran events across Greater Manchester, using their digital camera equipment to educate and engage people across the region.

Setting up for a shoot

With the onset of the pandemic and the resulting lockdown, the Collaborative has been much restricted in their activities this year. However, with the vaccine rollout now beginning, and easing of restrictions in sight, they are planning for bigger and better events in 2021 and beyond. They are looking to expand on their existing offering to include underwater and action photography, and even shooting footage via drones. Head to their website for more information and the latest news.

If you’re interested in the services they offer, or you’re thinking of volunteering, then get in touch. In particular, if you run a youth group in Greater Manchester, they would love to talk to you about the services they can offer which would benefit your members. Funding for charities is always crucial, and this year more than ever as so many organisations are doing everything they can to help those in need. Jack and Adam from the Outdoor Collaborative are taking on two huge challenges in 2021 to inspire others and raise money for future events. First, they will be taking on the Great Glen Canoe Trail, followed by an ascent of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps. You can read more about these challenges and donate here
