High-Tech Business Directories For Holme Valley

Holmfirth is soon to get its own next-generation business directory.

Shoppers in the Holme Valley will soon be able to use new high-tech directories to help them find local businesses more easily. The services will allow anyone with an Internet-enabled mobile phone to quickly get information about nearby companies.

One directory will cover Holmfirth itself, and is going to be called holmfirth.tel. Users will be able to search for something they want, for example a hairdresser, and only hairdressers from the village will be shown. Unlike standard directory enquiries services, it’ll be free to use.

The people behind it, who also run the Holmfirth Village website, say a sister directory at HD9.tel will include listings for Honley, Meltham and the surrounding area. Charities and schools will be listed for nothing, with other local businesses paying a small fee. A similar directory already exists for London’s Oxford Street, although the Holme Valley services will still be among the first in the country.

A Holmfirth Village spokesman said: “We are using the same technology that they are using in OxfordStreet.tel but the difference is that our service is designed to support village life in the Holme Valley.”

The directories are expected to be up and running by the end of this month.

The Holmfirth Village website is here.

The village of Chagford in Devon has a similar service, which you can view here. The Oxford Street version is here.
